I am mortified and covered in shame that I used this group for publicising my show, Lady in Bed. I agree that this forum should only be for people to recommend stuff. In mitigation, I wasn't quite sure WHERE on this slightly confusing site to tell...

Hi Rebecca I think what you say is a good thought. While I'm all for people advertising their work I think there are other places on this site and the internet as a whole to do that. What excites me about this site is that it is a place where peop...

I thought this group was about recommending things you've actually seen and want other people to know about, rather than promoting our own work? It's so much more interesting to take the personal interest out of it and share positive experiences. ...

I'm very confused by the 2 message boards - the ning and the proboards forum. Anyway, I posted this on the other board too. It isn't an underground obscure piece of theatre relying on word of mouth, but it is worth telling people to see: I am wor...

Excellent new group! I posted a guidelines thing, because it looked all lonely and empty.

Yes, emails sounds good.

Mind you, I've been exploring these NING sites which are splendid. We could actually set up an INVITE ONLY - CLOSED site which could be as few or as many people as we wished. That is, not open to all and sundry.

eMails are fine, but I'm a bit email-weary. Spam corwds out inboxes and with group emails you get these l-o-n-g threads where all the information is about a mile away at the bottom of the page and you have to scroll down to pick up the thread. And I personally get so many emails on so many different topics that - I don't know if it's so conducive to sharing and discussion as this site.

What I'm thinking here is that a separate NING offers good layout, one of us might want for example to post up an event to alert the (other 3 of us) to, such as a webinar on marketing, and specific threads of interest could be viewed separately as blogs.

i.e.

'Feedback - have just approached local branch supermarket - good tips'

'Template box-ticking - hints and tips for the funding unwary'

'What does a sponsor really really want from you for his money?"

etc, etc.

What do you think?

I've been practising setting up a NING. So simple.... ultra user-friendly.

How about a splinter group info-sharing network on getting sponsorship/funding? Let everyone on this network know it's being set up - ask for people to join us if they have actual case histories and/or are themselves seeking sponsorship of some kind.

I'm not sure if that would result in a wild rush from everybody in theatre or not. We'd find out...

My idea is to set up a separate NING (I think) which would have to be private to the core network. We wouldn't want companies eavesdropping on our frank exchanges. It would be useful to be able to name names: "I tried Brown and Brown Batteries and they weren't up for it, but I reckon if you approached with your show about robots they might be" kind of thing.

Mind you, there are professional fundraisers out there who might not like this idea. Dunno. Would it be treading on their toes? Some would probably share, others would play their cards close I guess.

I have a little experience myself, but you know one thing here is that everybody's experience is going to be so specific to their own project. Having said that, some imaginative ideas or strategies could clearly be cross-applied.

Thoughts?

Donkeywork looks great. Thanks for the friend invite. What's the latest with your sponsorship seek - ? I see your event was October 2008. Onwards and upwards? Is it happening?
